*grins* After having Been There and Dun That, my conclusion now is ... why get married, unless there's a compelling reason to do the legal thing? I'm perfectly happy with making a spiritual commitment, and as far as I'm concerned that's the important one, anyway.

Tax breaks/legal perks that unmarried couples don't get? Only reason I can think of offhand. My aunt was with her now-husband for 16 years before they got hitched last year.
At this point, the only reason I could see myself getting married would be if one of my partners became terribly and/or chronically ill and didn't have health benefits. The tax benefits aren't all that great, and pretty much everything else can be handled in other ways--powers-of-attorney and such.
