An update.

Alrighty. This weekend was a big adventure. It rocked totally!

Of course, public apology for worrying certain folks.

My Valentine’s Day started out pretty good. We were affectionate most of the day, but mid afternoon we sprouted one of our usual fights that occur anywhere from once a month to once every few months [as has been the case lately. Living together has actually caused LESS fighting.]

So, this is the part that worried certain folks. And, incidentally, Steve actually vented to somebody, that for which he almost NEVER does. In a way, I was really glad. I think he needs that.

So, after the fiasco of accidentally falling asleep for 4 hours of daylight… and the 2 hour argument… we finally decided to just randomly head out for a road trip at 9:30PM, on Saturday [Valentine’s Day.]

This would have been a brilliant idea, had it not been Valentine’s day AND a 3 day weekend. We took the Eclipse.

We started from Issaquah… and traversed Washington State heading towards the Peninsula. So first we ended up in Bremerton. From Bremerton, we crossed the hood canal bridge… at some point I got a mammoth headache and let Steve take over driving right before Sequim. Steve drove from there [around Cressant lake] to Port Angeles. Steve found Lake Cressant, in the fog, in the middle of the early morning hours, very eerie, with it’s severely winding roads and mist that sent him into memories of horror movies…

At Port Angeles? This was where I was tired and wanted to find a place to stay. We let the Rufus dog get out to go to the bathroom…. Annnd….

This was when we realized how s-m-r-t we were. Everywhere in Port Angeles was booked. So we said, “okay. Let’s keep driving!” I was moody-ish, but not bad yet. We were still having a semi-good time, even though at this point it was 2:00AM, Sunday.

So, our next destination was Kingston… in Kingston Steve was forced to drive my car and shift repeatedly at stop signs and slight inclines… it was a learning experience in Kingston for him. But he also got a better handle on how to drive my car!!

Then Forks… as we stopped in each town, we found there were NO VANANCY at 100% of the motels. After Forks, 4:00AM, Sunday I became moody. I had no idea when we headed out, we’d be driving around the entire peninsula!

From Forks we made our way to Quinault. It was beautiful because this part was driving through the rain forest. It was a total down pour, but the rain was beautiful, and the energy of the night was powerful and cleansing, driving through the Washington State Rainforest. I loved it, even though I wanted to be in bed, asleep. We were in the middle of nowhere.

… and from Quinault, where all lodging was full… we headed to Hoquiam. In Hoquiam I switched over driving, as I was tired of watching Steve shift [YES he improved and that was kickass and I was proud, but not in the mood to watch him slip my clutch AT all… so I took over].

I’d go into a few incidents there, but needless to say 99% of all the lodging was booked there as well. The LAST place we checked, and the ONLY place, in Hoquiam, had rooms available. It was a cheap little motel and it really served our needs just right. This was around 5:30-6:00 AM, Sunday.

I smuggled my dog into the motel room while Steve was paying for it. I mean come on, the dog is harmless, and seldom damages anything! Nobody even knew he was there :P
We were actually being rather romantic, even though it was early and we had been driving all night long. Before we slept into sleep, we made love.

So, I slept for 3 hours. Then I woke up, having no watch or clock and both of my cell phones dead… I thought I had slept for several hours. Until Steve told me to turn on the TV to get the time, and I realized it was only 9:30 AM, Sunday.

Steve insisted we sleep at least 2 more hours. So I watched the weather channel---and eventually, rolled over and went back to sleep until exactly 11:28 AM, Sunday.

I woke Steve up and insisted we go experience some DAYLIGHT fun. So, we decided to drive to Ocean Shores. That was fun. We drove onto the beach in Joe…. [next time in April when we go… I am getting pictures of Joe on the beach!]

Rufus ran and played in the surf as Steve coaxed him into getting wet… we searched for sea treasures… and I stood and felt the surging energy of the ocean. The static power of it’s force floated in the air, encapsulating everything around me, touching all parts of my skin.

This was fun. I also went a shop and got salt water taffy to eat, and later share with mom when we got back. In fact, some of that shit is sounding REALLY good to eat now!

So anyway. At this point, we decided to head back towards the rain forest. We checked out Lake Quinault, and marveled over it’s beauty [I drove all day this time].

And, at last we sped fast up along the peninsula until I saw a sign into Hoh Rainforest. I feel a huge connection to rainforests and the environment; it’s like something I’ve always wanted to do! So.. we drove down this one road for sum 50 miles or something trying to find this campground, only to realize we had no idea when the road ended, after it turned to gravel nastiness. So we got out and enjoyed the Hoh rainforest. The dog ran around and we tried to do a photo shoot with Joe and me on the roof, but they didn’t really turn out because the ONLY camera I had… sucked.

We left the Hoh rainforest…

Back towards the coast… we stopped along a beach that met with the rainforest, and we watched the sunset. We were romantic and affectionate, and we walked along the rocky beach [opposed to sand] where there were giant piles of driftwood from rainforest trees that were eroded by the ocean’s mighty force. Again, I took in the energic surge of the water and the beauty. This time it was more of an earthy-ocean mix, closer to the rainforest.

At last… back on the road again, just before darkness fell. We were hungry by now. We’d only had Albertson’s sandwiches the night before, that we had on the way out, and chips. We concurred to stop for food in Forks. We stopped at this restaurant and I was able to call my parents on the payphone to let them know where we had went. [They had invited us to grandma’s on Sunday to have dinner…]

We felt pretty much starved, so we ordered burgers and fries, and I also had a chocolate sundae. We talked and had a good time, until we began our last leg of the journal. A LONG leg :D

Finally we decided not to go around Cressant lake, and to go on Highway 112. This was another very windy road. When it was straight, I took it at about 80-85 mph, trying to make the miles go by faster. :)))

Though, by the time we left Forks, it was 7:00PM, Sunday. Lots of driving left ahead of us. We finally made it to Bremerton again, and I was tired of driving. It was 10:30PM, Sunday when we stopped at the Ferry station. We were the first on in line for the 11:40PM, Sunday Ferry to Seattle.

We then killed some time at the Bremerton station. We went up to the Ferry terminal station and saw Bremerton cops harassing some vagrant that was digging through the garbage and messing with the lady on duty. We hung out and looked at a map, as Steve showed me the miles we had forged. I’ll post a pic of it in my next entry. [Or a link to a picture that maps out exactly what the course of our trip was!] :D Anyway. We got back at roughly 1:30-2:00AM, Monday.

It really was a blast. After being gone for two days… I had failed to even think about anyone else other than Steve on the whole trip. It was so luxurious to just get away! We had some very valuable bonding time, and I am aching to do it again, only plan it out a little bit the next time. Of course, any other weekend, HALF of those motels would not have been booked. But looking back, the trip would not have been as endearing to me at all if that had not been our experience. We’d never have gone down to Hoquiam.

All around, things happened in a good way. I would do it all over again! :)
Although, I am SO taking my camera this time, so I can get some FREAKING good pics of my car in the cool environments! Someday I need to break down and buy a digital too. I’ve been using James on our trips.

Anyway. YEAY for driving across Washington! And yeay for strengthening bonds with Steve.
