Moving! Jim improvement. Home making.
Jun. 5th, 2007 10:27 amYesterday was wholly better.
I slept in, took care of some minor things around the house, and was getting ready to go to Tacoma when Jim text-ed me asking if he could come over.
One of the bigger issues has been that I do a lot of legwork on the home-front side (driving!) – and my house provides a few more benefits than the communal apartment complex down South. That and it’s nice for me not to have to make the hour long drive occasionally.
It was a relief when he made the effort to come out. He listens to every one of my concerns. He responds when things are reasonable – and no, we don’t always agree, but I feel like we both get our viewpoints out to each other effectively. And we’re both willing to admit to mistakes or oversights.
We went to lunch and then went shopping pretty much all evening. He bought some clearance clothes at Pac Sun and I bought a few things from WalMart, mostly dinner items and groceries. I was wanting to go to WalMart, the evil corporation to see if they had any items for my new home. Yes, Duplex Side A, opposed to Duplex Side B.
Side A will have me needing 2 things that I actually am looking forward to.
A TV stand (anyone have a nice TV stand they’re getting rid of that is moderate to small in size?) lol. And the other is a round kitchen table and at least 2 chairs.
I was thinking possibly one that has the option to fold down the sides for better space conservation. I was wondering if WalMart had a better selection than Fred Meyer on some of these items. I found they had crappy dining table stock but good TV stand selections.
Although I have my eye on a super-pretty, darker wood shiny set at Fred Meyer – I am also open to less expensive solutions. I could go thift storing, or garage saling, or CL-ing, but I also recognize I want something that will make a fine addition to my current selection of home furnishings. This is the stuff I will have for A.Long.Time.
I have been dying to have a better dining area for a while – so Duplex Side A will provide the opportunity to get this. I got to look inside because I was talking to my current neighbor (the wife) and she let me go in with her to look around. This is awesome so that I can get an idea of how much renovating the dear old city does between me and them.
I also have a less UNKNOWN vision of what to do with my living space! I am getting more and more excited about a fresh slate, a chance to clear out my crap, and start in a different home. I also will be painting my bedroom and possibly and accent wall in the living room. Jim may or may not eventually move in. It does provide our perfect wish: His and Her rooms. They’re close and yet far enough away so we can each find our personal space. For the time being when he is NOT in the place, I basically want to turn the second bedroom into my temple/library/office space.
Which is EQUALLY as awesome if you ask me, to having Jimmy there. Lol.
But all this hinges on where he goes to University and what he majors in. He seems very disgusted at schooling down South – there’s possibility he’ll move this way.
If he doesn’t – again, we’re projecting 1-2 years in the future one way or the other.
I think working through the distance and the bumps about what that entails may be the best way to strengthen our negotiation skills and general communication. Of all the relationships I’ve been in, I have yet to feel like anyone has taken quite as much consideration for my concerns when I voice them. I’m not used to this. Especially after my last run in the LTR arena.
So, anyways. I’m thrilled to move at the end of this month – excited to get away from Duplex Side B.
Duplex Side B represents a very important set of stages in my life. It represents moving out into my first place, my first domestic partnership, my first place living entirely alone, getting my second dog. My first breakup, my first self-thrown parties and so many other wonderful things.
It has seen some ritual work, some group work, some heartache, some hardcore arguing, and probably enough tears frankly to supersede every other phase of my entire life.
It also housed a very sick old person before the city bought it, and between then and the time I moved in there – 2 not so nice womanizing, egotistical, bad men just prior to my residency.
I feel like there has always been some unsettling energy there, no matter how much I scraped at the corners of the energic boundaries there. I tried many times to cleanse and cleanse and cleanse. I still feel like the vibes aren’t the kind that remind me of being cozy. I have many hopes the other side will be better than the side that the 2 men that were not good people lived (and basically 2 dead residents – one of the bad men died after 6 months of leaving the city with tumors all along his spine. Karma is a bitch. But damn, were his dogs sweeties…and the very sick old person who lived there before the city bought it.)
I know the history of my house pretty well. I actually met the people who used to own it recently last week donating blood. Her and her husband live 2 houses down from me~!
Very kind not-quite-old woman. (well, she’s old, but yesterdays old is today’s middle age if you ask me.)
Digressing. There are many new and exciting things to come and it’s going to be pretty funny to look back one day at the fact I will have lived in both sides of the Duplex. I never dreamed I’d be in Side A, and so this is just fun.
So, configuration wise, here’s some basics:
- Two Smaller Bedrooms, it’s like my current room split into rooms – I have a HUGE bedroom right now. I predict less wasted space.
- A medium sized (read, not tiny, not huge like my current bathroom) in between the 2 bedrooms.
- 3 small storage closets directly inside the front door
- A pot-bellied stove in the corner of the living room! Squee!!! Sounds cozy in the winter, no? Love this idea.
- A slightly larger living room
- A more defined kitchen space – although I forget some of the details about the MOST important room in the house (lol!) I used to hate cooking. WTF happened?
- A small utility room for the washer/dryer
- A backdoor that I forgot to analyze
- No dishwasher still
- No bathtub still – a slightly smaller shower stall
- Space for a dining area instead of my current island/breakfast nook
Anyway. Seeing as Side B has a built in bookcase/TV stand, I will be searching for inexpensive bookcases possibly, and definitely a TV stand. CL may be fun to watch.
So if you have any of the following and want to ditch it - I MAY be interested in low cost selling, lol!
-TV Stand
-Bookcases
-Dining set stuff.
If not, I'm having fun accenting my home. The search is going to be half the fun. Some people go to movies for entertainment. I window shop and deal rummage.
Home making is actually quite fun. Young Travis Heinz would agree with me. That's why I love that boy so much, haha.
yeay homes.

Re: IKEA!
Date: 2007-06-05 05:47 pm (UTC)I remember YOU were the special person who helped me shop there last time I went. On my first time there. Gods, that was one of my favorite outings with you ever.
I think I'll always remember that day!

Date: 2007-06-05 05:53 pm (UTC)Also, check out this site as well--it started out as the internal MS ads, but got shifted external several months ago. I've gotten a lot of nice stuff through them for not terribly much money--the LoveSac, our dining room table, and the downstairs entertainment center.
ooo

And, dear
Date: 2007-06-05 07:18 pm (UTC)And the bathroom is NOT something that you need to walk through my bedroom to get to.
This will be nice no matter what!
So, no awkward moments with your fella. But jesus, your guy sure gave Oscar and I a great memory and a damn good laugh.
Are we cruel for finding a make-out "this feels like high school and getting caught" moment amusing?
Oh, lordy.
That - I think, was one of my favorite memories with Oscar! haha.
