5K and memories

As I cool down from a lunchtime run, I figured I'd write a quick entry.
I was going to the fridge, to get my favorite beverage of choice: Water. When? I saw my 5K number that I have posted with a magnet to my fridge.
It immediately helped me remember that I've already come so much further than I really figured I could. I never would have thought I'd have come back from a 37 minute run, (to Parker Paint from my house). I never thought I'd look in the mirror and see characteristics from being active the way I am now. And for me it quite obviously is not all about looks - appearance - anything like that.
Partially, of course. It feels good to wear clothes that I don't have to worry about a tummy jetting out of. It really reminds me that external features also have internal affects. Being lean and strong makes me feel better on the inside in a way I really hadn't felt before. Eating right also falls into that "feel good" category. Who knew? Sure, you can read a thousand articles, and have the knowledge in an intellectual way... but until I really lived out some choices and differences in what I eat daily... I had no idea how it would feel.
So the number, 1564 will always represent a day when not only did I accomplish the 5K, my very first (and not the last, although I haven't gotten to run another yet!)... it also symbolizes support and one of the best days I can remember in years.
My 3 best friends surrounded me and were there right by my side.
Mom, Dad, and Jim.
I just had these thoughts and figured, between hydrating slurps, I might as well put them down into my journal. It's a feeling I know will be with me forever. :)
Back to the grind. I need to shower, put my face back on, and get back to the office. I hope the vendor doesn't call me until I am back at my desk. I really want to resolve this issue to prove that real service goes beyond getting a paycheck.
And on closing... I need to update my userpics.
