angelak: (Blossom To Die)

It's been quite the couple of weeks since I posted. Work has been slammed. Even now I have work to do, but I'm not going to do it yet.

So let's put it this way. The weekends and the work weeks have been packed in this month of July once it got underway. Been filming concerts on the green; which aggravated my good knee. My bad knee feels pretty good as of yet, but I'm taking it super slow with my return to run program (R2R) as I have named it. I have 2 more PT sessions, 2 more weeks. They didn't know if I'd need them earlier on, but here it is almost August and I'd say that I do.

Things get tender, but with a lot of stretching and icing, it's been easier. I do feel like it's slowly improving. I know things won't be normal for a while. The unconscious movements won't come for a long time. I'm doing the best that I can to accept that.

Went to Idaho – east of Boise last weekend to see Jill compete in a skating competition. That was fun. Also went camping (with mom and Jill). The weekend prior I visited Lianna by driving over to Spokane. That was a busy weekend too.
Jim has as usual been really patient about my healing process. It's hardest mentally because I would rather be out pushing it hard core. It's summer, after all.

I am limited currently to flat, paved surfaces. Not sure when the bike will be a reality for me either, so it's sort of hard some days, but I am happy to be out running at all on any level.
Doing as much of the stretching and whatnot that they've been giving me.

Each week they make it slightly harder. 45 seconds of plank, in 2 sets is intimidating, but I am doing it daily or else. And it does seem to loosen up my legs more than I would have guessed. I pretty much abandoned a lot of stuff I had in mind early on in the year. 2008 is not a year that will go down in my books as a favorite. Jim did the R2R with me last night and assured me that we weren't going “slow” with the running. It is good to ease the lungs in. I miss working my body hard, but I can accept what I have.

I added some elliptical at the end of the R2R. Today is CT day. I suppose I could swim, it has been a while and I bought better swim gear and then didn't go swimming after that. I am just anxious mostly because I don't want to tighten the leg muscles before the R2R. I guess it just amounts to a intensive session of stretching EVERY.Single.Night followed by the icing. And when I say stretching, sometimes I feel like stretching is almost as intensive as my workout itself. Real stretching takes time :P

I will probably adopt this for life because I can't afford to lose this kind of training time.

I bought a big belt so that I could do some self stretches at Target. It is almost too small even so...
To do some of the funkier over the back leg stretches – and also some straight leg side hip flexors...
I am challenged with new ones.

The over the back leg stretching is getting less awkward after a few weeks. But the new leg-side-hip flexor thing challenges me.

In other news... we are going to Westport this weekend – Jim and me. I made the decision to stay at bay from FoL.
And then the following weekend is Jim's birthday – and very last drill. He will then officially be out of the army. He is looking forward to this. He will be 26 and have served his 8 years.
This weekend we can get away with the dogs and chill at the beach.
I have so much more to say but the writing well has run dry...

More later I hope.
