Communication?

angelakThere was a breakdown in communication somewhere: I came in at 0400 like I said – to be here while they worked on our generator.
Well, apparently no one believes in using actual dates? Because the scheduled maintenance was between 4-6 “Thursday,” or something. My boss asked me to be here TODAY at 0400, and it is 6:15 and no one showed.
Except me.
For the last 2 hours.
I'm not exactly whining, except that this sort of made my Thursday, the same scheduled “permanent crown” replacement day, a little more annoying.
Sure, I got some stuff done. But I'd sort of rather have had 2-3 more hours of sleep.
The good news is my shiny fingernail polish. I could have worked on Sharepoint crap, but to be honest I hate Sharepoint crap. It is my primary project outside of desktop support here, and I can't seem to even want to mess with it. I'm so unmotivated on this project.
The writing on the wall says this could end up being my job shift in 2010 supposing I do what I am so good at here: not leaving.
So, there it is.
I feel tired and crabby and I have another 2 hours before I head out to the dentist. Now, I had this dentist appointment schedule 2 weeks in advance specifically. And the boss man asked me if I could be available to help with this generator business. He said, “I have no specific date,” etc. So when he finally told me 2 days ago that it was TODAY, he didn't also say that if I take sick leave, I technically can't get overtime pay for this. Because I'm taking sick leave and not actually working 13 hrs. Well shit, if I had known that I'd have turned down the offer. And insult to injury is, I get up at 0300 and might not get compensated properly because my pre-scheduled dentist appointment counts as taking leave and therefore negating my overtime.
I'm a bit perturbed.
Okay, I AM complaining. Strike what I wrote 4 paragraphs up.
I fully intend on taking the overtime pay and claiming my sick leave on a different day, because this has pissed me off just enough. Particularly the fact that SOMEONE, whether it be my boss, or facilities – made a mistake on what day this maintenance was happening. And thus resulting in ME getting my ass out of bed at 0300 and doing NOTHING productive here.
I could have done work, but I'm going to be honest. I was pissy about the notion that someone fucked up. Boss or Facilities, doesn't matter.
Asking for specifics when getting employees in at 4AM would be great. KthxBye.

Edit Now speaking with the boss - it turns out facilities told him THIS Thursday, and that it then becomes a facilities error.
